The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes The Boscombe Valley Mystery & The Five Orange Pips & The Man With The Twisted Lip (p. 226-276)

In The Boscombe Valley Mystery, a murdered man's son was accused for murdering him. Alice Turner, the daughter of  man named John Turner asked Holmes and Watson to investigate and so they did. There was much evidence towards the son but neither Alice nor Holmes believed it. Holmes believed that it was a third man who committed the murder. After some time, John Turner confesses to the murder but doesn't his daughter to know. So because Holmes is not a police detective, he agrees not to tell anyone. Seven months later John dies because of sickness.
In The Five Orange Pips, a man named John Openshaw went to Holmes for help. His uncle was found dead some time after he received a letter with five orange pips and the letters KKK. It is funny that some of them had no idea who the KKK were, but Holmes found an encyclopedia and told John and Watson. After a while Holmes found and confirmed that a ship named "The Lone Star" has the people responsible for the murder. So, Holmes sent a letter to the captain of the ship with five orange pips to scare him. He also told the police that they were responsible for murder.
In The Man With The Twisted Lip, Watson's wife's friend went to him for help. her husband was missing for some days and she was worried. Holmes and Watson eventually found out that her husband was a beggar and was taken to prison. He was leading a double life and didn't want his family to know what he was doing. So, by the end of the mystery there was no crime and no villain.
All three of these stories are very short and I really do believe that Doyle should make them somewhat longer.

Sherlock Holmes The Red Headed League & A Case of Identity (p. 200-226)

In the Red Headed League, a man named Jabez Wilson went to Holmes and told him what had happened. His assistant showed him an ad in the newspaper from the Red Headed League which said that there was a job opening and only a red headed man would be hired. So, because Wilson was red headed he went to the address and saw a line of red headed men. After some time he went to the office and was interviewed and became the only person hired that day. His work was to copy an encyclopedia for 4 pounds a week. One day after several weeks of working he saw a sign that said "The Red Headed League is Dissolved". Wilson was mad that he was not going to be payed anymore so he wanted to know what happened. Holmes told him that the case would be solved in 2 days. He found out that the people who hired him wanted to keep him out of his house so they could dig in his basement so they could break into the bank next door.
In A Case of Identity, a woman named Mary Sutherland had a relationship with a man who had just disappeared. Sherlock Holmes called this an elementary case and agreed to solve it. Her boyfriend's name was Mr. Hosmer Angel and no one knows his address. All of his letters are written on a typewriter and she writes back to him by putting her letters in the post office. They only met together when Mary knows her step father is out of the country. So, Holmes finds out very quickly that her stepfather was Angel but does not tell her because he knows she will not believe it.
Both of these stories were very short and somewhat odd. I believe that Doyle's longer stories are better than these short ones.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: A Scandal in Bohemia (p177-200)

These few pages are about a Germain man named Count Von Kramm. This is his fake name and when he went to Holmes he found out that his real name was Wilhelm Gottsreich Sigismond von Ormstein and he is an heir to becoming King of Bohemia. He tells Holmes that he is engaged with a princess named Clotilde Lotman von Saxe-Meningen but is having relationships with a woman named Irene Adler. She is threatening to reveal what is happening with a photo she has.
So Holmes follows her into a church the next day and finds that Irene was getting married to someone else. So then Watson faked a fire and saw that Irene went to a place in her sitting room and because they now knew where the picture was he then again yelled that it was a false alarm. The next day they went to her house again and could not find the picture and also found out that her husband was not there. They then found a letter saying that she loves her new husband and will not harass the Wilhelm anymore.

Sherlock Holmes The Sign Of Four (p155-176)

Pages 155-176 are the last pages of the book. In these pages Jonathan Small ends up confessing on everything that has happened and explains the story to Holmes. He told how two Sikh men threatened his life to join them or die unless he helped them. So four of them planed to murder a man and the plan went wrong. They were arrested and sentenced for life. But Small made a deal with Morstan and Sholto and agreed to give him some of the treasure if he got him out and they agreed. Sholto then went against them and got the treasure himself and went to England. So Small eventually found out he was there and attempted to rob him with the help of a man named Tonga who then killed Sholto.
So the cops took Small into custody and they received credit for the case. Watson ended up getting engaged with Mary Morstan and Asked Sherlock Holmes what he will get out of this experience. He then replied "there still remains the cocaine" and reached for it

Sherlock Holmes The Sign Of Four (p131-155)

After following the dog a little longer, Holmes and Watson were taken to a place where they discover that men had taken a boat. Holmes also finds out that a man named Jonathan Small has hired a steam boat called Aurora, so he tells boys to find it. After some time there was no luck but Athelney Jones went back to their place of stay and told Watson  that he needs help from Sherlock. Watson told him that Holmes was not there but unexpectedly, he walked in wearing a disguise as an old mariner.
Holmes explained that he used the disguise to find out where the Aurora was. When they found it, they also found Small and his companion was found shot and killed. They also found a box/chest and guessed that the treasure was in their, but they were disappointed to find out that it wasn't. Small had thrown it overboard because he didn't want anyone else to have it but him.
These chapters were very interesting and I can not wait to finish the book. Only 1 chapter left!

Sherlock Holmes The Sign Of Four (p101-131)

In these few pages, Holmes and Watson went to see Miss Morstan (the woman who hired them to investigate) to gather some information. She asked them to not bring the police into this because she didn't like the public to know anything. So then they went to a cab and drove into a neighborhood. They stopped at the third house on that street and go out. When they knocked on the door, a hindu man opened it and told them "the sahib awaits you". So they went inside and met a man named Mr. Thaddeus Sholto. Upon meeting him he asked Watson to listen to his heart, but he did not hear anything unusual. They also met Thaddus' brother Bartholomew and found out that their father Major John Sholto died while telling his children about a treasure he found. Also because of the finding of that treasure Miss Morstan's father (who has disappeared) had died.
Later in the story Bartholomew found the treasure but was killed by a poison thorn in his skin. So because of the murder, a man named Athelney Jones, from the police force came and arrested Thaddeus for the murder. Holmes also finds out that there were two men at the murder scene that fled. So he told Watson to go the the house of a friend of his to get a dog. Once Watson brought the dog back, Holmes used it to sniff the trails of the two men. So for the rest of the pages they were following the dog around and his good sense of scent.
This book is not as boring as the first book of the Sherlock Holmes collection. I hope i enjoy it.

Sherlock Holmes The Sign Of Four (p89-100)

This book strangely starts out with Sherlock taking his home made concoction of cocaine solution and injecting it into himself a couple times a day. He believed if there was no mystery or problems to be solved there was no point in life. So he created his own mystery and told Watson the origin of his watch and how it got to him.
In the next chapter Holmes did find his case. A woman's father had just come to town from the army looking for a peaceful life and he is no where to be seen. Holmes was told all the facts and agreed to investigate.
This was an interesting start of the book and I can't wait to read more!

Sherlock Holmes A Study In Scarlet (p70-88)

The rest of this book took away some confusion I had and finished the story.
Lucy does end up dying and the flashback ends. What I found out about Lucy is that she is the reason that people were murdered. In the current time of the book, Holmes and Watson find Lucy's lover who's name is Jefferson Hope. They find out that he was the killer and take him to the police station. The detectives also find out that Hope has an aneurysm and was scared that he would die before the trials. Because he knew that death was near, Hope confessed everything and told the whole story about what had happened. He spoke about following Drebber and Stangerson across two continents and eventually finding them in England. When he found them he spoke of letting them choose between two pills. One pill was harmless and the other was poisoned.
After the confessions Holmes and Watson went back to their housing on Baker Street and Holmes tells Watson how he found out so many big facts by using so many small facts. They also find out that Hope had died a day before his trials because of his heart condition. Finally, the book ends with Roman words reading "Populus me sibilat, at mihi plaudo Ipse domi simul ac nummos contemplar in arca".
I feel now that i finished this book that the parts that did not make sense do now. I am also glad that I accomplished something. I FINISHED MY FIRST BOOK IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CAREER!

Sherlock Holmes A Study In Scarlet (p35- 69)

Within the contents of these pages, Holmes and Watson are visited by a man named Gregson who tells them that he has captured the murderer. Lester also tells Holmes that Stangerson has died by being stabbed through the heart. The unusual part about this murder is that the word Rache has been found above his body, just like the first murder. Holmes then learns that Stangerson had some pills on his body. So he tests the pills on a dog that was outside. The first pill was harmless (which Holmes found out after some confusion), but the second pill was poison and killed the dog.
After that Part 1 ends and part 2 begins, being called "The Country of Saints". In this part, instead of continuing with the murder, the story strangely flashes back to 1847 in Utah. During this time a man named John Ferrier and a little girl were the only survivors of a group of pilgrims. Later, a group of mormins find them and take them in only if they take in their faith. Even more later in time the little girl, named Lucy, grows up and becomes engaged. Then there is some drama about Lucy not being able to marry the man because he is not a mormin and some danger gets involved.
I did not like the way part 1 ended and thought that the story was about to end. I also did not like how part 2 began because it seems that the flash back has nothing to do with the story. I hope it does...

My day

Today has been an easy day not that much homework except for reading. One of my main goals today was to catch my teacher Mr. Hill without his book. If he is caught without his book, I will get extra credit. So far i have failed at that goal. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day and i will catch him. I am also hoping for a 2 hour delay.

K'NAAN - Wavin' Flag (Coca-Cola Celebration Mix)

 this is an inspirational song

Sherlock Holmes A Study In Scarlet Part One (pages 1-34)

This story starts with a character named Watson who just came back from the Afghan war and meets his friend Stamford. He told Stamford that he was looking for a comfortable place to stay at a cheap price. Once he heard that, Stamford told him that someone else by the name of Sherlock Holmes was looking for a person to split the price of some nice rooms he found. So they both went to the laboratory where Holmes was working to accept his offer. When they meet, Holmes immediately tells Watson that he has been in Afghanistan just from looking at him and Watson is amazed at how he found that out so fast. So, they had a conversation and agreed on sharing the price of the rooms.
In chapter two, Watson was in a way assessing or studying Holmes and his "ways". His interest and curiosity in him deepened as time went on. He even created a list titled "Sherlock Holmes-his limits" with lines of things he can do and knowledge that he has. Watson also noticed that Holmes has multiple people that go to him daily. So, later in the chapter, Sherlock reveals that he is a detective and the people visiting him are his clients.
During chapter 3, Holmes receives a letter about an unusual murder that happened. It tells that there is no robbery and no wounds on the dead person, but there is blood in the room. Also, no one knows how he died. So, Holmes decides to investigate and invites Watson along with him. When they arrive at the building, they learn that two  inspectors named Gregson and Lestrade are there. They learned much on their visit including where the dead man was and a German word "rache" which means revenge written on the wall with blood. Holmes also found a ring on the dead persons body.
In chapter 4 and 5, Holmes was informed that a drunk man was revisiting the scene of the crime and that man was the murdered. Holmes also put a notice in the paper about the ring, expecting the murderer to come get it. But instead an old woman comes and says it is her daughter's. So he followed her home by jumping into the cab she had taken, but when the cab stopped, the woman was not there leading Holmes to believe that she is an accomplice to the murder.
This book is very interesting to me so far because it is the first time i have read Sherlock Holmes and i have seen the most recent movie. The book and the movie are nothing alike except for the characters. None the less i like this book and expect to continue reading it.
