Sherlock Holmes The Valley of Fear Part 1 The Tragedy of Birlstone Chapters 4-7 (p922-958)
In chapters 4-7 Part 1 of this story is completed. I am summarizing all the chapters into the same paragraph because not as much happens in them and they are short. So, in these chapters, Holmes, Watson, and the inspector found a bloody footprint on the window still and from that they deduced that the killer had jumped through the window. The only problem was that they could not find anything outside the window or hear any stories about him. Later Holmes found out that one of John's dumbbells were missing which could mean that the murder took it. But Holmes had a hunch that it was in a moat next to the building and fished until he found it. He also discovered that it was weighing down clothes. So, he put everything back where it was and told Douglas' butler Barker that he was draining the moat for evidence and hid the rest of the night to find that he had taken the clothes. Then McDonald accused him of the murder but Mrs Douglas stopped him and pressed a button to open the fireplace. Behind that fireplace another man named John Douglas. He explained that he was part of a gang and they had the same brand which made them look so similar. He said that a man named Ted Baldwin was trying to kill him and they struggled until Baldwin accidently shot himself in the face. Barker was involved because Douglas needed his help to put his clothes on Baldwin to make it seem like he is dead and the clothes in the moat were Ted's.
