Sherlock Holmes The Valley of Fear Part 1 The Tragedy of Birlstone Chapters 1-3 (p900-921)

In chapters 1-3, Holmes got a letter form an informant who's name is Fred Porlock. He is part of a criminal organisation and wrote the letter in numeric code. So, Holmes decoded it and it said that a man named John Douglas was about to be murdered. Then they contacted inspector MacDonald of Scotland Yard and he was amazed when he saw the letter because John Douglas had just been killed in Sussex. After that, MacDonald wanted to know who the man was that predicted the crime but Holmes did not know. All he does know is that he works for Professor Moriarty. So, all three of them decided to go to Sussex, meet inspector White Mason, and begin the investigation. Before the murder, the house had at least five people in it. There is also a moat around the house that is 2-3 feet deep. The body was very strange. He had a strange band on his hand with a circle and triangle inside it. He was shot in the head at close range and his wedding ring was missing. There was also a card next to his body that said VV 341?
