Sherlock Holmes The Valley of Fear Part 2 The Scowerers Chapters 1-7 (p958-1016)

I am also going to summarize the entire Part 2 into one post because it is short. These chapters start in a train going to Vermissa Valley. Inside, a man named Mike Scanlan caught the attention of another person also riding who has a revolver. His name was John McMurdo and he was from Chicago and part of a "club" called the Eminent Order of Freemen. It was ironic that Mike was also part of that order. Later on the train, McMurdo argued with police men on the train and Scanlan told him to go and see Bodymaster McGinty at Jacob Shafter's boarding house once he reached town. At town, McMurdo fell in love with Jacob's daughter, Ettie Shafter but found out that she was already with another man of the "club". She also did love him back but was afraid what would happen if she broke her relationship with the other man named Ted Baldwin. After that, he went to the Bodymaster McGinty and said that he had made counterfeit money before he killed his partner and went to the coal mine region. McGinty liked what he heard and decided to keep him in the Order. Later, McGinty told Ettie that she could choose who she loved more because they were both from the same Order and McMurdo then did some criminal activities. When he returned he gave her a 6 month deadline to know the answer. After some time, the order got some intel that a detective agency was sending a man named Birdy Edwards to investigate their activities. So, McMurdo offered to lure him into his house while other members waited there. While they were waiting, McMurdo walked into his house and announced that he was Birdy and arrested them. Also, Ettie ended up getting married to him and they ran to California. People attempted to murder him several times but failed and soon his wife died of sickness. So, he went to England and married his second wife while asking Holmes what to do. Holmes' advice was to tell him to leave England
